Regularly inspect and replace the filter element of the CAT 336 excavator filter
In order to prevent dust and impurities contained in the added oil from entering the main parts of the machine, protective measures have been taken on the excavator. Multiple filters have been installed on an excavator, each playing its own important role.
(1) Air filter
The combustion of fuel inside the engine requires fresh air. The air filter can remove dust and other foreign objects from the air drawn into the combustion chamber from the outside, to prevent wear of engine cylinder liners and piston rings.
(2) Oil and fuel filters
Oil and fuel are easily mixed with moisture and dust during storage and refueling. Filters can filter out foreign objects and prevent wear on internal system components of the engine. In addition, if these filter elements are heavily contaminated, it can lead to poor oil or fuel flow, insufficient engine power, or poor lubrication, resulting in engine damage.
(3) Hydraulic oil filter
The function of hydraulic oil is to convert the medium of power, so it is strictly prohibited to mix dust and other foreign objects. The hydraulic oil filter can prevent impurities from entering various parts of the hydraulic device.
In addition, the oil suction filter is installed in the hydraulic oil tank to protect the hydraulic pump in the hydraulic circuit. The oil after work will return to the hydraulic oil tank, and the return oil filter is installed at this return oil location. Therefore, the degree of contamination of the return oil filter (such as the presence of iron filings) can be observed to determine whether the pump or other components of the hydraulic system are in an abnormal state.
When the oil passes through the filter element mentioned above, impurities can be removed, so over time, the pollution of the filter will become increasingly severe. If the contaminated filter is not replaced in a timely manner, it will reduce the oil flow and prevent the original performance of the machine from being fully utilized. In addition, if damaged or excessively contaminated filters are continued to be used, impurities cannot be filtered, thereby shortening the service life of the machine.
Therefore, the filter element should be replaced regularly, and if any abnormalities are found during regular maintenance and inspection, they should be replaced immediately.
To prevent machine wear, sufficient oil and grease should be added
During the operation of hydraulic excavators, there will be significant friction in various parts of the machine. Lubricating grease and oil can reduce these frictional forces, as lubricating grease can form an oil film to prevent the mutual contact of various metal parts in rotating parts.
Adding oil and grease is an important task, mainly to reduce friction and wear, and to ensure smooth operation of the machine. However, if the refueling is not sufficient or if deteriorated lubricating grease is added, it will not form an oil film and cause metal parts to come into contact with each other, leading to wear and bite. If the machine continues to operate in this state, it will cause damage to the mating parts of the machine's moving parts, and in severe cases, it will enter a shutdown state.
Therefore, sufficient amounts of oil and grease should be added regularly. Regularly checking and replacing the oil in the tank is crucial for the normal operation of the machine.
